SU ELECTIONS: Women Students’ Officer announced

Your new Women Students’ Officer is Riya Chauhan, beating Caroline Jarvis who came a close second. 

The position was a close competition, as Chauhan acquired 330 votes while Jarvis obtained 210 – a 120 voter difference. RON totalled to 23 votes. 

Chauhan will be handed over the position from current Women Students’ Officer, Hannah Bud, by the end of June.

Her manifesto is focused on increasing women’s safety and effectively combating social issues faced by women. 

Her key pledges are (1) implementing forums and discussion for women to communicate issues; (2) expand zero-tolerance policy to women’s rights campaigns; (3) provide training and support to bring more awareness to issues faced by women

Key issues both candidates addressed are women’s safety, raising awareness on women issues and increasing discussions surrounding women’s health and consent.
