The final Sheffield University Performing Arts Society (SUPAS) senior tech call of 2024/25 is now open.
Seeking leading members of the technical team for SUPAS’ upcoming musical Into the Woods, the society have opened applications for both seasoned and new technical designers and other key off-stage figures, to be closed on January 26th.
The team will work under the guidance of the show’s Production Manager, who has yet to be announced.
In a social media post earlier this afternoon, SUPAS officially opened “applications for senior tech for Into the Woods […] link to the application form is in our Linktree”.
The Into the Woods senior tech call has opened applications for eight leading roles within the production’s technical team, including both Stage Manager and Deputy Stage Manager, Propmaster and Sound Engineer, as well as Designers for Lighting, Costume, Set and Hair and Makeup.
Each role will be assisted by additional members of the technical team, with applications for these positions expected to open in the coming weeks.
The Sheffield University Performing Arts Society are a musical theatre group which stage three productions each academic year, all of which are performed in the University of Sheffield Drama Studio.
Alongside the Sheffield University Theatre Company (SUTCo) and University of Sheffield Light Entertainment Society (USLES), they are one of the three theatre performance groups on campus, staging both larger- and smaller-scale productions, with all aspects of the shows organised, performed and created by students.
Into the Woods, their large-scale second semester production, joins last semester’s Be More Chill and Amélie in completing their 2024/25 programme.
Written by James Lupine with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods follows a collection of fairytale creatures who all exist in the same universe, with their stories and fates interacting with one another as the story progresses.
The show was first staged on Broadway in 1985 and the West End in 1990, with a variety of revivals on both sides of the Atlantic since then, including a SUPAS’ own rendition in 2018.
Just over three months until SUPAS take to the stage for the final time this academic year, the Into the Woods senior tech call is the penultimate opportunity for SUPAS members to join a production before 2025/26.
With only ten days to submit an application, it’s time for experienced or new designers to decide whether they will venture Into the Woods
