The Sheffield University Performing Arts Society (SUPAS) have opened suggestions for their semester two musical, their final show of the 2024/25 academic year.
The musical theatre group, with upcoming shows Be More Chill and Amélie both playing within the next few weeks at the University of Sheffield Drama Studio, announced the opportunity for new submissions on Sunday, ahead of their production slot in the final few weeks of semester two.
In a post on social media, the performance society announced the opportunity to submit suggestions, as well as explaining how the process would operate.
“Current members can suggest any show that you’d like to see SUPAS produce in semester 2. Committee will then shortlist and allow members to vote for their favourite”
“Suggestions should carefully take into consideration of cast and band sizes as well as availability of rights”.
A similar process was employed previously to select semester one productions, returning Be More Chill and Amélie to the week 9 and 11 slots, respectively.
Submissions for the semester two, week 9 slot are open now until November 17th, which will be followed by the committee shortlisting process. However, this opportunity is afforded to SUPAS members only, with regular students unable to suggest or vote for the next production.
The Sheffield University Performing Arts Society is made up entirely of current and former students, producing three musical theatre productions per academic year, with the first two taking place in semester one, and the final in semester two.
Previous SUPAS productions include Made in Dagenham, The Addams Family, 9 to 5 and Rent, on top of the current shows they have planned this semester.
Before this semester’s shows have even had a chance to take to the stage, SUPAS are already making preparations for the future and final production of the 2024/25 academic year.
With musical suggestions open from now until November 17th, SUPAS members are urged to pitch their ideas before the deadline to avoud disappointment next semester!
