SUTCo Announces Shows and Audition Dates for Semester 2

The Sheffield University Theatre Company have released their semester 2 show lineup! After a successful first semester with both Something To Do With Bolivian Affairs and The Real Thing being awarded 5 star reviews from Forge Press (and Dead Poets Society still yet to come!), SUTCo are back at it again with a mix of comedy, drama, and student writes.

Kicking off the semester will be Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple (Female Version) in Week 3, the week commencing February 23rd. Directed by Abby Broido (The Effect, Something To Do With Bolivian Affairs) and Eden Houlberg (Twelfth Night, Something To Do With Bolivian Affairs), this show concerns misfit roommates Florence and Olive, as their warring personalities come to a head at their weekly Trivial Pursuit night. With a nearly entirely female cast, this show promises to be a success, with ample comedy and trivia!

Next we will see The Devil Went Down to Parliament, written and directed by second-year English and Philosophy student Lilly Ryan (The Haunting of Richie Chadman by USLES) with assistant director Hannah Forster (The Real Thing, The Importance of Being Ernest) in Week 5, the week commencing the 9th of March. Inspired by the tale of Dr Faustus, four ordinary people have their lives changed forever when a man who may just be the actual devil pays London a visit. Based on political satires like Yes, Prime Minister, this mix of comedy and commentary will be a blistering watch.

Ending the semester is Arcadia, the second Tom Stoppard play seen from SUTCo this year. Directed by James Platt (Twelfth Night, Something To Do With Bolivian Affairs) and Toma Hoffman (Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Something To Do With Bolivian Affairs), this play flips between 1809 and the present day, telling the story of 15-year-old maths prodigy Thomasina Coverley through two modern day researchers who start to discover the truth behind her genius, and the events surrounding the disappearance of her tutor. Stoppard’s seminal work is a tragicomedy, blending both hilarity and tragedy, past and present, science and poetry.

Auditions for all three shows will be held on the 9th and 11th of December, with callbacks on the 14th: follow them on instagram at @_sutco to get info on timings and location!
