The Sheffield University Theatre Company (SUTCo) production The Effect have announced their technical team, bringing their company to completion.
The team, consisting of only eight people, now makes up exactly half of the show’s total company, joining the four previously-announced members of the production team and the cast.
The Effect are the second SUTCo semester two production to complete their company, following a similar announcement from the team behind Accidental Death of an Anarchist last week.
Taking to social media earlier today, both the production and the wider SUTCo accounts shared the technical team collaboratively, “introducing [their] INCREDIBLE tech team!”
Stage Managed by Lilia Harnett, the production will also see Jess Ansbro (The Importance of Being Earnest) and Lucy Davies (Amélie, Made in Dagenham) joining her as Deputy Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager, respectively.
SUTCo’s Welfare & Inclusions Officer Sophie Layton (The Importance of Being Earnest, The Rocky Horror Picture Show) returns as Lighting Designer & Operator, with one of the group’s Technical Officers Joe Edgar (The Importance of Being Earnest, Why We Stay) as Sound Designer & Operator, reprising his designer role from last semester’s The Importance of Being Earnest.
Completing the technical team are Mason Lugh (Summoning Morphsuit Gary, Margaret Beaufort: Kingmaker) as Projection Designer & Operator, Ella Hulford (Margaret Beaufort: Kingmaker, 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche) as Costume & Set Designer, and Izzy Robey as General Crew.
Harnett and Robey are the only members of the technical team to be making their theatrical debuts this semester in the entire company of The Effect, and only Davies making her SUTCo debut.
All other members of the company have previous credits within SUTCo.
Set to be staged in mid-March at the University of Sheffield Drama Studio, The Effect is written by University of Sheffield alumna Lucy Prebble, who won the 2012 Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play following its run at the National Theatre.
Directed by Emilia Lodge (The Importance of Being Earnest, Shakespeare in the Park: As You Like It), and assisted by Amaara Qureshi (The Importance of Being Earnest, Shakespeare in the Park: As You Like It), The Effect reunites the directorial team behind last semester’s The Importance of Being Earnest, with Abby Broido (The Importance of Being Earnest, Why We Stay) as the show’s Producer.
Completing the production team, and leading the announced technical team, is Grace Lowe (The Importance of Being Earnest, Shakespeare in the Park: As You Like It) as Production Manager, tasked with organising & bringing together the various departments into one united team for the show.
The Effect joins Accidental Death of an Anarchist, It Came From the Ice, Shakespeare in the Park: Twelfth Night and Peace Circle in SUTCo’s semester two programme.
Now with two SUTCo productions’ technical teams fully announced, the wait is almost over for the return of SUTCo, with the first of their second semester productions opening next month.
As the countdown continues and all eyes turn to Accidental Death of an Anarchist, the team behind The Effect are tonight beginning their work, as their production appears on the horizon.
SUTCo’s The Effect will be playing at the University of Sheffield Drama Studio from March 12th until March 15th. Tickets are available here
