The Sheffield University Theatre Company (SUTCo) have begun preparations for their first semester productions in 2024/25, launching proposal applications for prospective production teams. The biannual process, beginning in the semester preceding when the shows will be staged, gives all students at the university the opportunity to pitch a show for the group to perform.
Taking to social media this afternoon, SUTCo announced: “Come and have your say on the plays SUTCo will put on next semester!”. Anyone is able to attend these proposals, whether they are part of a potential production team or not and will have the chance to “ask questions to the production teams before voting on your favourite three plays to take place in weeks 5, 8 and 10”. A different timetable is currently being produced for week 3 short productions, with an expression of interest form already opened by the society last week.
Show proposals are a regular event run by SUTCo, giving students the opportunity to present their ideas for plays they would like to see staged in the new academic year by the Working Committee. Successful proposals will go on to be developed by the proposing team, in collaboration with other members of the society, to form a fully-realised show in the new semester. Each proposing production must fill out a proposal document from the society, attend a pre-proposal session with senior committee members, and present their ideas at the official proposal dates.
As well as proposals, the group have also revealed plans for their first EGM of the new society season, following their AGM meeting to elect new committee members last week. With five roles still outstanding, namely a Digital Publicist, Projects and Workshops Officer, Archivist and two Technical Officers, it is a prime opportunity for society members or other interested students to apply for a committee role. As a Working Committee of the university, membership to the society is free and automatic, meaning all students are eligible to apply for roles.
Whilst September may be a long way away yet, SUTCo are already preparing for their next season, and are looking for people to get involved in creating the next productions for our student community. The group are ready for their next talented thespians to share their ideas, giving current students the perfect opportunity to give it a go!
More information can be found by visiting @_sutco on Instagram. Proposal applications are open until 6pm on May 7th, with pre-proposal meetings happening on May 8th in Committee Central in the Students’ Union. The SUTCo EGM will be taking place on May 13th, followed by proposals on May 13th & 14th
