The tech call for the first Sheffield University Theatre Company (SUTCo) production of 2025, Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of an Anarchist, has been opened, with applications now being taken to join the company in a backstage capacity.
The production, which will run for four performances at the University of Sheffield Drama Studio from February 26th until March 1st 2025, has made a number of technical and promotional roles available for the comedy, which will be the first outing for the theatre group since this month’s Margaret Beaufort: Kingmaker.
In a collaborative post between the show’s social media and that of the larger theatre company, the production team, most notably the show’s Production Manager Autumn Ten Dam, announced the open call, inviting interested individuals to apply before the deadline on January 5th 2025.
The tech call for the show has opened up fifteen different roles for interested backstage technicians, in all departments.
Most notable is the inclusion of a Social Media Manager, the duties of which have recently been fulfilled by the show’s Producer.
Focused on creating content for and tailoring the production’s specialised social platform, the Social Media Manager will work closely with Producer Katie Carthew as the production date approaches.
Other available roles include Stage Manager, Deputy Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Managers, both Lighting and Sound Designers and Operators, Projection Designer, Costume Designer and Assistants, Set Designer and Constructors, Hair & Make-Up Technicians, as well as General Crew roles.
Emphasising the need for no prior experience, the Accidental Death of an Anarchist production team and wider theatre company are open to applicants from all backgrounds and level of knowledge, offering to teach and train new technicians seeking to branch out and try something new.
As a working committee rather than a society, SUTCo also enables all students from across the university to get involved, without requiring any form of membership or fee payment to be a part of the production.
Co-Directed by Kirsty Lucas and Ben Sanderson, Accidental Death of an Anarchist was determined as the first production of 2025 in the past few weeks, claiming the week three production slot.
This incarnation will be SUTCo’s third attempt at platforming the show, due to both 2020 and 2022’s productions forced into cancellation due to the coronavirus pandemic and other medical issues.
With the third staging now on the horizon, SUTCo have already begun to search for their first cadre of technical teams for the 2025 season.
Casting already complete but yet to be announced, we are eagerly awaiting more information about the production, which opens in just two months time.
