The final production to be created by the Sheffield University Theatre Company (SUTCo) before the 2025/26 academic year, Peace Circle, has opened applications to join the technical team.
The production, which will be staged in Sheffield before transferring to this summer’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, is the final SUTCo show of this year, and is set to follow next month’s Shakespeare in the Park: Twelfth Night.
It also marks the final opportunity to get involved in a SUTCo production before September, with all other productions having passed, or with applications now closed.
Taking to social media yesterday to announce the latest call, the production tea behind Peace Circle celebrated their announcement, saying to potential applicants that the “deadline is April 25th so get those applications in now!”.
The production team have opened up seven potential roles within their technical team covering all major theatrical departments.
However, the team are also keen to highlight which roles will involve heading to Edinburgh for the Fringe productions, with limited spaces due to cost and logistical restrictions.
Heading to the Scottish capital, the production’s Stage Manager, Lighting Operator and Sound Operator will fulfil the standard roles of an entire technical team during the Fringe shows, assisted by other technical team members during the Sheffield productions.
The wider technical team, which will include a Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, Costume Designer, and Hair & Make-Up Designer, will be involved in all aspects of the show, besides travelling to the Fringe itself.
With no previous technical experience required to put in an application, any student throughout the university is eligible to apply for a role in the show.
Appointed members of the technical and stage management team will join the existing 10-person company of the Peace Circle production, made up of a mix of returning and new SUTCo members.
Peace Circle, an original play written and directed by University of Sheffield student Lucy Singer (The Importance of Being Earnest), is Production Managed by Grace Lowe (The Effect, The Importance of Being Earnest), with Jess Clayton and Jasmine Kaur-Lee as Assistant Directors and Producers.

The production will initially be staged in Sheffield before the run at the Fringe Festival, to ensure that Sheffield audiences are able to experience the show, even if they cannot travel to Edinburgh.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is an annual arts, culture and theatre festival held in the Scottish capital each August.
The event, the largest of its kind in the world, welcomes thousands of acts each year, including many both professional and student productions.
SUTCo aims to send a production to the festival every two years, with their previous production We Are, In Fact, The Problem premiering in 2023.
With the recent closure of the Shakespeare in the Park: Twelfth Night tech call, the recent opening of the Peace Circle applications marks the final chance for interested students to join a student theatre production this year.
With several weeks until applications close, there remains plenty of time for interested experienced and budding technicians to put themselves forwards, and see their work platformed to worldwide audiences at the famous Edinburgh Fringe this August.
Applications to the Tech Call for SUTCo’s Peace Circle can be submitted here. Applications close on April 25th
