The second Sheffield University Theatre Company (SUTCo) production of the upcoming spring 2025 semester, Lucy Prebble’s The Effect, have opened their tech call.
Applications taken until January 13th, the production are looking for budding tech team members to join the production and complete their company, ahead of the show in March.
With ten different roles available, the show joins week three’s Accidental Death of an Anarchist in opening their tech calls, with both productions fielding for technical staff before the exam period commences in January.
In their announcement post on social media, the team behind The Effect opened their tech call and invited interested students to “apply through the link in [their] bio”, as well as pointing out the application deadline.
The production, written by University of Sheffield alumna Lucy Prebble and directed by Emilia Lodge and assisted by Amaara Qureshi, is looking for a variety of different roles in all technical teams.
This includes a stage manager, deputy stage manager, assistant stage managers, both lighting and sound designers and operators, costume, hair & make-up technicians, as well as general crew.
As with all SUTCo productions, The Effect tech team requires no prior experience with theatre technical roles or with SUTCo, and is therefore open to any current student wishing to take part.
The technical team will be led by The Effect’s Production Manager Grace Lowe, who alongside Producer Abby Broido, complete the production team for the show, each most recently seen in this semester’s The Importance of Being Earnest.
The Effect is a play about a drug trial at a hospital, and the participants and their doctors as they navigate the world of in-house drug trials, as well as each other.
Being staged from March 12th to 15th at The University of Sheffield Drama Studio, this production will be the last of the 2024/25 academic year to use the venue, with the society not returning until the first production of 2025/26.
The three other SUTCo productions between The Effect and then, namely It Came From the Ice, Shakespeare in the Park and Peace Circle, are all to be staged in alternative locations.
With two tech calls now live, The Effect’s call for people to join their recently-announced cast gives potential techies several weeks to apply to join the company, and contribute to one of SUTCo’s final productions of 2024/25.
With no experience required to take part, any New Year’s Resolutions to get involved and try something new can be ticked off in SUTCo’s latest venture, as well as joining one of the university’s most prominent theatre groups.
The Tech Call for SUTCo’s The Effect closes on January 13th 2025. Applications can be submitted here
