The Seamonsters – How To Be Famous

Sheffield’s latest indie-pop export, The Seamonsters’ latest single ‘How to Be Famous’ is a bouncy, psych-pop number with a very catchy chorus.
Combining elements of pop and indie genres, the song starts with twangy bass chords before the drum beat kicks in and then Naomi Mann’s vocals, allowing the track to grow into a layered, laid back number. The creative bursts of tambourine shimmers add a 60s pop vibe to the song. Instrumentally, the track has a strong drum beat and flawless guitar chords that will certainly get the crowd bouncing at their live gigs.
The fully female band experiment with volume in the vocals. The hook “let’s search how to be famous” is soft and whispery then seconds later, the electric guitars kick in and the vocals are loud and spiky. It creates a clever whisper to shouting effect which is reminiscent of artists such as Paramore and Wolf Alice who have also mastered this technique.
The lyrics of the song explore the modern obsession with social media and the dangers of the trends that we follow for “so called entertainment”.
