The Ultimate Guide to a Sheffield Night Out

Whether you’re a fresher trying to navigate the city of Sheffield for the first time, or a returning student aiming to broaden their horizons, this is the ultimate guide to a night out in the Steel City.

The essential part of a night out is a pres. It’s a great way to get to know your flatmates and break the ice. The way to make a perfect pres is with; a speaker, a digital camera and a knowledge of drinking or card games.

Foundry

Foundry is the university’s student union and is the place to be during freshers week, hosting 10 consecutive parties.

Kicking things off, Foundry is taking over the iconic club night ‘Leadmill Friday’ following the tragic closure of Sheffields iconic Leadmill. Return the following night for another Foundry staple ‘Pop Tarts’ which is non-stop pop music and has some great themes, some from last year include; ‘Disney tarts’, ’Musical tarts’ and my favourite ‘Brat tarts’.

There are also three big welcome parties for freshers: ‘The Official Sheffield Welcome Party’, ‘The Big Freshers Icebreaker’, and ‘Bingo Lingo’. These parties are a great way to dive into student life and get to know other freshers.

Want to avoid FOMO? Then start planning your outfits for  “ROAR”. At “ROARS” ‘Zoo Party’ the wilder the look the better!

If these aren’t your style, then kick off your freshers week with the “tuesday club” ‘freshers rave’.

West Street

No need to worry worry if yourself or your flatmates forgot to buy club tickets – West Street is the answer.

The street is full of bars, pubs and plenty of takeaways that cater to a student budget.

West Street Live is a student favourite, with their cheap and unique drinks. You haven’t done freshers week right if you haven’t had way too many “Skibiddi Rizz Bomb’s”.

Another West Street must visit is ‘Molly Mallones’, this Irish pub offers live music, quiz nights and musical bingo.

Tank

Tank is great for students who love house, bassline and techno music. Often hosting events which host notable Djs like; Girls Don’t Sync, Josh Baker and Morgan Seatree. It’s home to the annual “Bassfest” which sees world class DJs come to the steel city and Tank hosts the after party.

Corporation

Corp is known for its “Monday Corp” .They understand the struggle as a student when it comes to money, so they introduced a “pay what you want” on Monday. With a minimum spend of 60p on drinks, ‘Corp’ is the place to be for students who don’t have a 9AM lecture on a Tuesday.

Whether it be a bar, pub, club or music gig: Sheffield will always offer some of the best nights out you could ever want.
