Sheffield University introduces attendance monitoring

Recently, attendance monitoring has been enrolled across every academic department at the University of Sheffield.

This involves confirming your attendance through Digital Check-In on the iSheffield app.

Several academic departments initially introduced this scheme in September, but it is now widespread across the university.

The university argues that attendance monitoring is important to:

  • “Ensure you are engaging with your course
  • Identify where you might be struggling
  • Ensure you have access to the right support
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and/or professional obligations”

Attendance is mandatory at the University of Sheffield and forms part of your commitment when you register.

If you are unable to attend a timetabled teaching session, the university recommends that you contact the appropriate department.

If you miss a single timetabled teaching session, the university will not usually trigger further action. However, if you do not regularly attend, you will be contacted by the university.

Further details can be found here on the university’s website.
