There Is Nothing Quite Like The Fringe

Two years ago, I spent a week in Edinburgh reviewing plays, musicals, stand-ups and almost every other type of performance on offer at the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe. After being positively infected by the joyous energy of budding artists and thrilled theatre-lovers, I returned to Edinburgh last year, with the cast and crew of my own play in tow. And this year, for the first time, I attended the Fringe for only one day, to catch a performance of my own short play, as well as two full-lengths I’d found online. As it turns out, I can’t keep myself away. As anyone who has attended themselves would agree, my return rate doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Each year, the festival provides an astounding range of performances at accessible prices, presented by people from numerous backgrounds, cultures and experience levels, all alongside one of the buzziest and electric atmospheres you will ever witness. I had to wake up at 5 a.m. to catch the train to Edinburgh in time for a 10:30 show, but I’d do it again in a heartbeat. The Fringe never fails.
