Full Name: Annie Henderson
Age: 24
Course & Year of Study: Current Wellbeing and Sports Officer
Give us your pitch! Why do you want the job and why should students vote for you?
There is still so much left for me to tackle in the world of Wellbeing and Sport. The experience, connections, and insight that I’ve gained in my first year as officer make me perfect for re-election.
Spearheading Initiatives such as Wellbeing Wednesday and the Invest in Sport campaign, I’ve worked hard to enhance inclusivity and opportunities in sport.
Re-electing me guarantees the ongoing success of these projects and also provides opportunities to expand the realm of wellbeing and sport.
With an unlimited budget, what three things would you do to improve students’ mental and physical health?
- Build a new sports centre, with all the bells and whistles! (including a new swimming pool).
- Increase the staffing and resources of the wellbeing, welfare and counselling services at University.
- Be able to provide free access to extracurricular activities at University for everyone.
Three words to describe yourself?
Resilient. Kind. Motivated.
Who would play you in a film of your life?
Emilia Clarke for no reason other than I absolutely love her!
What’s the best city in the UK (don’t be boring, you can’t say Sheffield!)?
hmmmm Edinburgh? I have just come back from there and had a great time. Very pretty city, great food and very nice people.
You have to introduce 3 new sports into varsity, what would they be?
This one really stumped me!
- School sports day competition (e.g egg and spoon race, sack race, 3 legged race).
- Diving. I would love this to be a club in Sheffield.
- Slip-n-slide races down conduit (this would be absolute carnage but so much fun!).
You can time travel to any year in history anywhere in the world. Where, when and why?
1908, First Olympic Games to be held in London. To see how sports have evolved over the years.
Film or music? Favourite film/artist depending on your answer?
AJR is my favourite band of all time (song recommendation – The DJ is crying for help, or 100 bad days)
What’s your favourite sporting moment of your lifetime?
Cliche answer as a Wellbeing and Sports Officer but honestly being in the crowd when University of Sheffield won Ice Hockey for the first time last year was a pretty incredible moment!
A personal sporting moment has to also be when Trampolining took back the Varsity victory last year or when my team won Gold at BUCS.
Given the choice… pub, club or coffee shop? & Name your favourite pub/club/cafe in Sheffield depending on your answer.
ROAR – I can’t really say otherwise can I?
What’s your meal deal? Not Tesco-exclusive, you can be edgy and pick a different shop…
Hoisin duck wrap, Salt and Vinegar McCoy’s, the drink usually varies, but recently Fanta lemon.
Which living person do you most admire and why?
Emilia Clarke. She had two brain aneurysms rupture and turned what is a terrifying life event into strength.
She has since used her experience coupled with her platform to set up a charity to raise funds for people living with brain injuries.
Tell us a joke.
What did the cheese say to itself in the mirror? Halloumi.
Sorry it’s rather cheesy!
What’s your favourite thing about Sheffield?
How friendly everyone is here – both students and members of the public. Everyone wants to help each other and is so welcoming to new people, it is lovely to see and be a part of.
