Tomas Rocha has been elected Liberation Officer for the SU for the 2024/25 academic term.
This is a post he’s already held during the current academic year.
He won with 1593 votes in total, beating one other candidate to be re-elected.
He spoke to Forge Radio after his election win…
How are you feeling right now?
You would think that after doing this thing last year I’d be used to it, but not at all. Last year, I was in shock at being elected for the first time, and this year it feels like I’m being rewarded for doing a good job in my first year.
It means everything that people would trust me to carry on in this role.
What are your plans for your next term in office?
So much of my first year was getting stuff in place, and then the second year will give me the opportunity to follow it through and focus on implementation. I still have control of the wheel to make sure it’s all done right.
It’s going to be the least spectacular first day in office ever, because I’m just going to continue to do what I’ve been doing all year. I’ll be sure to kick some liberation butt.

What’s your greatest fear?
Bees. They for sure have something in for me and if they come anywhere near me I will genuinely run away.
You can time travel to any year in history anywhere in the world. Where, when, and why?
No single year stands out to me I’m afraid! I might have to cheat and say 1000 years in the future – history’s already written, and I’m too curious not to find out where we’re going next!
Given the choice… pub, club or coffee shop? & Name your favourite pub/club/cafe in Sheffield depending on your answer.
I like the vibe of a good ol’ pub. I try to mix it up, so I don’t really have a favourite, but “Fagan’s” hosted some amazing Irish folk musicians the last time I went, and it’s such a nice atmosphere when they have a show on!
