With the nights drawing in and classes starting again, we have well and truly left summer behind and entered autumn. Whether you love or hate this season, everyone can benefit from some cheering up and self-care during autumn, especially as the uni work starts to pile on. So, here are some ways to romanticise autumn and make first semester a lot more enjoyable.

Explore Sheffield’s many coffee shops
Whether you’re new to Sheffield or a returning student, there will definitely be at least a couple of coffee shops you haven’t had the chance to try out yet. From Division Street and the city centre, to Crookes High Street and Broomhill, there are coffee shops everywhere you turn in Sheffield. Why not explore a few this autumn either by yourself or with some friends? A couple of hours spent studying, chatting, reading, knitting or drawing whilst sipping on a latte are sure to warm you up as the temperatures drop.
Get cosy at home
On those days when it is just too miserable to venture out of your front door, it can be fun to hide from the weather by making your room all nice and cosy. You could put up some fairy lights (maybe do this now so that you are ready for these days when they hit!), get cosy with a blanket and spend the day watching your favourite show or film, or getting through that book you said you’d read months ago.
Spend time outdoors
As much as autumn is a great time to cosy up indoors, it is also important to make sure that you are still spending time outdoors and getting your daily Vitamin D. You could go to one of Sheffield’s many parks, or even venture out into the Peak District, and spend some time noticing the changing colours and sounds of the season. Don’t forget to wrap up in a cute jumper and scarf!

Get creative in the kitchen
Autumn is a great time to try out new recipes. It is the season of apple crumbles, pumpkin soup and cinnamon rolls, and, whilst you could buy these out, wouldn’t it be more fun to try your hand at making them yourself and sharing them with your flatmates (or just keeping them for yourself!)? If you’re feeling extra creative, you could even try making your own autumn-themed syrups for your coffee or hot chocolate!
Make your own autumn crafts
An autumn craft night is a great way to bond with your new flat or house. You could make autumn wreaths, carve pumpkins or make Halloween decorations. You could even try your hand at pottery painting so that you have a mug waiting for you ready for next September.
