Cooper Clarke’s affinity with Sheffield is long-standing, and his performance of his iconic “Sheffield” poem on the Hillsborough stage will particularly be one to watch. Arctic Monkeys fans will be familiar with their cover of his poem “I Wanna Be Yours”, dubbed the world’s favourite poem; hearing a recital of the original might cause this English Literature student to spontaneously combust.
Originally from Salford, the poet, comedian, presenter and cultural commentator skyrocketed to fame in the 1970s, described by Sir Paul McCartney as “one of Britain’s outstanding poets”. His poetry is featured on the national curriculum and has led him to be considered the “Godfather of punk poetry”. The spoken word poet is yet to perform at an outdoor event of this scale in Sheffield, so with 98% of tickets sold already, make sure not to miss it.
