Two Sheffield MPs back pro-Parliament rally this weekend

Cllr Olivia Blake, Labour’s candidate for Sheffield Hallam, is organising a rally in Sheffield this weekend against the confirmed suspension of Parliament in October.
The rally on Saturday is also being supported by Paul Blomfield, MP for Sheffield Central, and Louise Haigh, MP for Sheffield Heeley.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed he has asked the Queen to suspend Parliament for a week – a process known as ‘proroguing’ – following the break for party conferences at the end of September.
After the suspension, there will be a Queen’s Speech in Parliament to outline the new government’s legislative programme, but means opposition MPs are left with very little time before the UK crashes out of the EU without a deal on 31 October.

On Tuesday 27 September, opposition leaders in Westminster met to agree their strategy for presenting a no-deal Brexit, and seemingly settled on passing legislation to make leaving the EU without a deal illegal.
However this latest news cuts down the amount of time available for them to act on that strategy, and makes a no-deal Brexit more likely.
Cllr Blake has been approached by Forge Press for comment, and this story will be updated in time.
