A coffee and chat session held at The Edge, raised £638 to support St Luke’s Hospice for their patient services.
The event included a clothes swap and pop-up shop, raffle and tombola, where prizes included a VR headset, a £50 Love2Shop voucher and genius vouchers to spend at the campus cafes.
Olivia Yates, Supporter relations and Fundraising administrator for St Lukes, said: “We are delighted that The Edge team have continued their support for us and that their fundraising has got off to such a great start.
“In the last year, our community team made 6,583 visits to patients in their own homes across Sheffield, helping to support them and the other healthcare professionals caring for them.
“At the same time, our In Patient Centre provided 24-hour specialist palliative care for around 300 people. In addition, we supported over 350 bereaved relatives with over 1,000 sessions of counselling and support.
“To continue providing this level of support, however, we depend on the generosity of the people of Sheffield and the support of businesses and organisations like The Edge at the University of Sheffield is vital to our future success.”
The donations came from Residence Life and Equans, as well as the marketing department and individual members of staff that brought things in for the tombola and bake sale.
St Luke’s retail team arrived with clothes from their stores across the city, with items from brands such as Zara and Doc Martens.
Some of the team at the edge were also invited to visit the St Luke’s Hospice site in Sheffield before the event to see where the money raised for them goes.
Lucy Beck, Marketing communications manager for the University Accommodation and Commercial, said: “It’s a beautiful place with an incredible range of services, from recreational activities for those they support and their families to get involved with, as well as therapies and other crucial care facilities.
“We were able to meet and talk to some of their service users and hear about how important and impactful their services are. The teams there work so hard to provide comfort, leisure and care to those who need it the most and we love supporting them in any way that we can.
“The fundraiser was also a great way to bring people together, including staff, students and those from the wider local community.”
It took place last month at the Edge, in Endcliffe, the University of Sheffield’s conference venue and accommodation complex.
