The University of Sheffield has asked those travelling around campus to begin wearing face coverings again following updated government guidance.
The use of face masks decreased after restrictions were eased in July. Now, everyone will now be expected to wear a face covering while inside university buildings unless they are exempt or if local rules suggest differently.
This new mandate applies to all communal areas including moving around university buildings, as well as in lectures, seminars, shared offices, libraries, and the Information Commons.
The update has come after Prime Minister Boris Johnson tightened coronavirus restrictions last week in response to the discovery of cases of the new Omicron variant in the UK.
Current government guidance states you should wear face coverings where close contact with other people is likely, such as in shared areas, shops and businesses, and public transport.
It also states to take two covid-19 tests each week and register your results online. You should wash your hands regularly, use hand sanitiser where available, and stay home if you feel unwell.
