Matt Dryden, 3rd year, 1st XV Captain of Men’s Rugby Union
We got started with preseason back in September, with a really good buy-in from the lads to come back to Sheffield early and get to work. We even had a few Freshers come along to get stuck in straight away. We were unlucky last season to get relegated, despite finishing 4th, but it’s given us the chance to really compete at the top of the table and hopefully win a lot of games this year. We’ve also seen a lot of new faces in the 1st XV after a lot of key individuals graduated at the end of last year – makes it a really exciting time to be in the squad with a lot of unknowns.
We started the season strong, beating Doncaster, who are in the league above, in pre season. We’ve gone onto start the league season unbeaten 2 games in with a big win vs Hallam in October – a highlight for a lot of the lads. We’re really optimistic for what we can do this year in both the league and cup. And then obviously we know what we need to do come Varsity at the end of the year.

Molly McGuiness, 3rd year, Netball Club Captain
The season so far has been so exciting! Seeing the new teams bond both on and off the court has been amazing. It’s been so encouraging to see everyone come together, giving me so much excitement and confidence for the rest of the season and most importantly.
Elli Thomas, 4th year, Women’s Rugby Union Club Captain
This year so far has all been about growth for women’s rugby! We’ve had record membership numbers and new starters and it’s so great to see so many new people loving and enjoying a new sport!!

Jonny Bruning, 4th year, Squash Vice Captain
We’ve started the season with big wins from our Men’s and Women’s 1s in their first games and some great debuts on the Men’s 2s and 3s, we want to be challenging for top of the table with all of our teams!
