UoS Men's football raise over a thousand for vandalised Endcliffe war memorial

The University of Sheffield Men’s Football club has raised over one thousand pounds to help with the restoration of a famous war memorial in Sheffield.
Tony Fould’s Mi Amigo Endcliffe Park memorial was vandalised in late April, with numerous flags, memorabilia and pictures stolen, leaving the pensioner devastated.
Fraser Harding, the team’s volunteering secretary, said: “We were disappointed to hear about the mindless vandalism at the memorial, but even more gutted by how upset Tony was.”
The University Football team decided they would run, cycle or walk a total of 1,944km in an attempt to raise money to restore the memorial to the Mi Amigo aircraft and it’s the crew that crashed at the site where the memorial now stands in 1944.
Fraser continued: “We use the park for club runs and fitness sessions and can see first-hand the selfless effort he puts into the upkeep of the memorial.”
The grand total raised by the team currently sits at £1,301 thanks to the donations of a huge number of people.
Fraser added: “I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who got involved and helped with the cause.”
“It was really good to see everyone come together to make the fundraiser a success and ultimately, and most importantly, raise money for Tony.”
