UoS swimmers complete lockdown fundraiser in prep for 2021 channel swim

Swimmers and Water Polo players at the University of Sheffield have taken another big step in preparing for their Channel crossing fundraiser next year.
In an attempt to raise funds to cover some of the costs of such an event, the Swimming and Water Polo Club opted to do a fundraiser, in which they would travel the distance of the Channel at home.
Charity Officer Rosie Rudin said: “We’re incredibly grateful for all those who donated and participated as this will ease the financial burden placed on us as full-time students.”
36 participants combined to travel over 2400km, with 31 managing to complete the 34km from Dover to Calais.
Miss Rudin covered the most distance (254.74km), with Tom Wright and Megan Richter covering 248.02km and 200.03km respectively.
Adding the total raised from this event (£747) to the money raised at supermarket bag packs, the team have now raised over £1000 for a pilot boat, which will cost them £4300 in total.
The Club hopes to hold another event similar to this before University starts in September, but with a competitive element against Sheffield Hallam to see which team can travel the furthest.
Donations towards the cost of the pilot boat are still being taken on the Club’s fundraiser website: https://www.gofundme.com/f/uosswpc-english-channel?utm_medium=more&utm_source=customer&utm_campaign=p_na+share-sheet&rcid=5f08dc712d05467db543375456a3e104
