The University of Sheffield Light Entertainment Society (USLES) have opened their latest tech call ahead of their summer production.

Announced earlier this month, their latest show, (a highly professional production concerning the crew of a spaceship and their encounter with an) alien, is seeking a technical and stage management team to accompany the cast and deliver the space adventure.

The play, which will be staged from May 12th until May 14th, is written by USLES member Zephyr Solaris.

Opening their tech call earlier today, the group took to social media to share the news: “the USLES tech call is here! If you’d be interested in being part of our tech team in any of the roles listed above, fill out the form in our linktree”.

The production is seeking a variety of technical roles, including Stage Management, Lighting, Sound, Costume and Publicity Designers, Lighting and Sound Operators and Costume Assistants, each charged with delivering one of the major elements of the show

USLES also stress that positions are open to applicants of all abilities, with no prior technical experience required.

The University of Sheffield Light Entertainment Society is one of the three major performing arts groups at the university, alongside the Sheffield University Theatre Company (SUTCo) and Sheffield University Performing Arts Society (SUPAS).

The group, which stage three productions each academic year, pride themselves on platforming student-written scripts, comedic in nature, as well as casting auditionees of all abilities, with every auditionee gaining a role.

With the cast of the production already determined, the latest tech call is the final opportunity to get involved with USLES in the 2024/25 academic year, before the group begin the process for their summer production, staged in September.

With second semester well underway, this latest opportunity to join one of our university’s performance societies is another chance to create theatre for a brand-new production written by one of our own students, and showcase your skills to student audiences from across the university!
