How did you meet your partner? We’re asking for a friend. More specifically, we’re asking for Richard Hawley, who ahead of the 20th year anniversary of his fourth album Cole’s Corner is collecting love stories. The album was named after a Sheffield location that became known as the go-to meeting spot for first dates, and to celebrate this anniversary Hawley is leaning into the album’s themes of romance and nostalgia. The album’s title track reveres this city: “I’m going downtown where there’s music, I’m going where voices fill the air / Maybe there’s someone waiting for me, with a smile and a flower in her hair.” Whether you first met your loved one in Sheffield or elsewhere, anyone can send in their stories. It can be a few lines or several paragraphs, an email or handwritten in a photo; any names or initials could be published too. Send your personal love story to colescornerstories@gmail.com to celebrate the city that we love.
