University of Sheffield students are one of 37 uni-student groups who may face strike action as members of the University and Colleges Union voted in favour of strike action.
78.8% of University of Sheffield voters chose to back strike action, which would make it the fourth year in a row staff have striked at the University should it go ahead this year.
Only 21.2% of voters at the University voted “no” to striking.
The strikes are due to an ongoing, long-running dispute over pensions, pay and conditions after universities chose to cut the guaranteed pension of staff by 35%.
UCU General Secretary, Jo Grady, said: “Staff in universities they have given their all to support students during the pandemic, but management have responded by trying to slash their guaranteed pension by 35%.”
The results of another ballot, relating to pay and conditions are expected tomorrow.
Once the results of this ballot are in a higher education committee will meet on 12 November to decide the next steps.
