Sometimes after a long day at university, you want nothing more than to be entertained…and cheese. Well luckily for us, the University of Sheffield Light Entertainment Society (USLES) have brought us a comedy perfect for our end-of-term woes, and I cosied up in Coffee Revolution to see what it was all about.

The Cheese Time is a short comedy about Olly, who is transported to another dimension where everyone celebrates The Cheese Time, an annual event for cheese giving. But Jem, who accidentally transported Olly to this dimension, has noticed that many hardworking people are giving a lot more than they’re receiving. With help from Kelly, they infiltrate the exclusive Camembert Ball to get to the bottom of this heinous plot.

As someone who’s never seen a USLES show before now, if you’re expecting a technically marvellous and insightful piece of live theatre, maybe go somewhere else. USLES shows are all about having a laugh and enjoying the moment, and the absurdity of everything that’s going on. That being said, The Cheese Time had some surprisingly deep moments (if it wasn’t for all the cheese puns!). Everyone who worked on this show did a fantastic job as I was laughing the entire time. Once you get over the initial shock and absurdity of the whole production, you’re sure to have an amazing time!

Everyone in the cast clearly had a great time doing this show, with moments throughout that left me in fits of giggles. Olly, played by Mason Lugh, was a stand-out for me, as was Emily who played Jem’s mother Linda. However, I think we can all agree that the most memorable performance came from the surprise return of Morphsuit Gary as Gus! The University of Sheffield’s 2023/24 Students’ Union Presidential candidate returned in an instant crowd-pleaser, with everyone in the audience happy to see his return to the blinding lights of the Students’ Union.

The Cheese Time was so much fun to watch, especially alongside friends, so consider bringing your housemates when you come to watch USLES’s production, as you’ll all be talking about it for days after!
