Sheffield out of University Challenge after quarter-final loss to Birkbeck

The University of Sheffield has been knocked out of the university challenge after losing their quarterfinal second leg to Birkbeck, University of London.

Sheffield scored 160 to Birkbeck’s 200 during the game aired yesterday evening.

In the first round quarter-final, Sheffield lost by 35 points being beaten 195 to 160 by Imperial College London.

Sheffield needed to win to stay in the competition.

The University of Sheffield said on X (formerly Twitter): “A thrilling end to our run on University Challenge (…) you have done us proud.”

 

This is the first time Sheffield has reached the quarter-finals since 2011.

The university‘s best result was in 2008 when they finished runners-up.

The team is made up of members Safiya Rujak, Joe McGough, Mathew Nail and Captain Cameron Colclough.

They beat Loughborough University and the University of Aberdeen in the first and second rounds of the competition to make it to the quarter-finals.
