“Maybe procrastination is one of my guilty pleasures”: Q&A with Ce Wang, Welfare and Sustainability Candidate

Full name: Ce Wang

Age: 30

Course & year of study: Digital Culture and Communication, first year.

Give us your pitch! Why do you want the job and why should students vote for you?

I aspire to become the Welfare and Sustainability Officer because I firmly believe that enhancing student welfare and promoting sustainable policies on campus can significantly improve our academic and living experiences.

I possess the skills to organise events, listen to the needs of my peers, and communicate effectively, enabling me to represent our interests and bring about tangible changes.

My aim is to create a more inclusive, healthy, and environmentally friendly campus environment where every student feels the positive impact.

With an unlimited budget, what three things would you do to improve student-experience?

1.Establish a comprehensive student support center to provide mental health, academic guidance and career planning services.

2.Create smart learning spaces equipped with the latest technology and resources to promote innovation and collaborative learning.

3.Carry out a variety of campus cultural and sports activities to enhance students’ sense of belonging and community spirit.

Why is sustainability important to you?

Sustainability ensures the long-term well-being and development of the student community.

It encourages us to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles and learning methods, reducing our environmental impact, while also cultivating students to become responsible global citizens through education and practice.

This not only enhances their quality of life but also paves the way for their success in an increasingly sustainability-focused world.

Three words to describe yourself?

Dedicated, Innovative, Empathetic.

Who would play you in a film of your life?

Jackie Chan.

What’s the best city in the UK?

Brighton.

What’s your greatest fear?

The inability to make a meaningful impact.

You can time travel to any year in history anywhere in the world. Where, when and why?

What I most want to go back to is the summer of 2018. For me, that was the pinnacle of my career, a time when I won glory and trophies, and I still miss it. And I would tell myself at that time, never take the wrong path.

What’s your meal deal? Not Tesco-exclusive, you can be edgy and pick a different shop…

Chinese food.

Given the choice… pub, club or coffee shop? & Name your favourite pub/club/cafe in Sheffield depending on your answer.

One of my favourite coffee shops in Sheffield would be “Steam Yard.”

What superpower would you choose?

The ability to play any instrument fluently.

Which living person do you most admire and why?

Admiring Avril Lavigne for her contributions to music and her resilience in facing life’s challenges highlights a recognition of talent, individuality, and perseverance. Her authenticity, distinctive style, and relatable lyrics set her apart in the music industry.

Beyond her musical achievements, Lavigne’s journey includes overcoming personal health challenges, specifically her battle with Lyme disease.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Maybe procrastination is one of my guilty pleasures.

What’s your favourite thing about Sheffield?

Sheffield is often called “The Outdoor City” because of its easy access to the Peak District National Park, one of the UK’s most stunning and expansive natural landscapes. This proximity to nature, combined with the city’s vibrant cultural scene, including music, festivals, and art, creates a distinctive living environment.
