The Off the Shelf Festival of Words have announced their full programme for the 2024 event, running from October 7th until November 3rd. Following last month’s previews, the full agenda of the literary festival includes a range of book talks, workshops and poetry events, as well as a range of special guests, all descending on the Steel City next month, including presenter Adrian Chiles, campaign group Led By Donkeys, dancer Wayne Sleep, and former Cabinet minister and peer Baroness Sayeeda Warsi.
In an announcement on social media earlier this afternoon, the literary festival, delivered by The University of Sheffield, said: “Off the Shelfers…the wait is over! Our 2024 Off lineup is bursting with incredible authors, speakers, poets, and more! Get ready for an adventure, discover your next favourite author or poet, and immerse yourself in the literary world at Sheffield’s legendary festival”.
The Off the Shelf Literary Festival is an annual event running throughout the city, first taking place in 1991, supported by Arts Council England and Sheffield Hallam University. Now in its 33rd year, the festival aims to bring together communities from around the city and North of England of all ages and backgrounds to engage with different forms of expression and literature, as well as hearing from the authors, writers and poets behind the pieces. The events announced today join those revealed in previews last month, including with comedians Richard Ayoade and Sara Pascoe, as well as actor Julian Clary, and others.
The one hundred-strong events in this year’s programme have already begun to raise excitement for next month’s programme, with events taking place in a range of venues, including the Millennium Gallery, Firth Hall, Sheffield Theatres and the Montgomery Theatre. With just over one month to go until this year’s festival begins, the countdown is already on for the return of one of the largest literary festivals in England.
