Sheffield Eagles sign Hull KR man, per reports

According to reports, Sheffield Eagles have made the signing of Reiss Butterworth from Super League side Hull KR for the 2025 season.

Butterworth signed for the Super League title contenders on a one-year deal ahead of the current season after impressing for Dewsbury Rams, who won the third-tier RFL League One in 2023.

He made three Super League appearances on loan for London Broncos this season before further loans to second-tier Featherstone Rovers and a return to Dewsbury Rams.

Now, it looks like he’s heading to Sheffield – according to reports, that deal has already been agreed.

The 25-year-old made his Super League debut for Huddersfield Giants in 2020, but in seasons since, he has never managed to become a regular Super League starter and will now hope to help Mark Aston‘s side build on a promising 2024.

The move comes after falling down the Hull KR pecking order, as Michael McIlorum and Bill Leyland have both been signed in the hooker position for next year, while Jez Litten is also expected to continue his highly successful off-the-bench role next season.

This year, 30-year-old Vila Halafihi has started the majority of games at hooker for Sheffield Eagles, while veteran Kyle Wood, formerly of Castleford Tigers, Wakefield Trinity and Huddersfield Giants, has also featured there on occasion.
