The University of Sheffield Students Union (USSU) and Forge Press allowed an article to be published on various platforms on three different dates (12, 14 and 24 February 2024) which went beyond the terms of an agreement between USSU and Mr Derick Liew. Forge Press also did not contact Mr Liew despite mentioning “Derick has been contacted for a statement” in the article.
Whilst the Forge Press operates with agreed independence and in accordance with byelaws and charter, which ensures the right of free press, it is accepted that the article publications contain prospecting and misleading elements. It is further accepted that Mr Liew has been affected by the publications. We apologise if those publications have contributed to unnecessary anxiety and distress to Mr Liew.
All parties are pleased to confirm that they have come to a mutually acceptable agreement in order to resolve the difficulties that have arisen as a result of the publications.
