Meet your Liberation and Activities Officer Candidate: Maggie Morris

Maggie Morris is running for Liberation and Activities Officer in this student union election 2026.

They were motivated to apply for this role because they love talking to people and finding out what students here in Sheffield really want. Being on the liberation committee has pushed them to take this role to have a bigger impact and get better access to funding. Maggie said: “I think the main issue students face right now is cost of living, I want to provide clearer routes for students to help get support.”

Maggie talked about how the cost of living crisis is pushing more and more students into financial strain, resulting in them taking on more part time jobs to afford living. They said how big of an impact this is having on students participating in societies and clubs. Things that would benefit them hugely in their time at university.

They also feel there has been a pressing issue in immigration policy change recently and their first plan would be to help students feel more welcome if they were to be successful. Maggie Morris said: “students that are immigrants need to feel supported by their university.”

If they got in they would also like to make art more accessible to students and provide clearer updates on the SU politics. Maggie’s campaign plan includes handing out badges in pink that state woke on them. They will be walking around campus to give students a chance to grab a brand new badge and have a chat before election night!

With an unlimited budget Maggie would make all societies free to enable a stronger community with better funding for events. As drag society has been a huge part of their university experience and felt it’s taught them so much about themselves.
