The Women of Colour society has been going from strength to strength since being founded in Spring 2026. I spoke to Founding President Seerat, Publicity Officer Tiffany and Treasurer Alisha.
The committee described their society as a “welcoming community that celebrates cultures, identities and individuality.” It is inclusive, energetic and friendly.
They “love the sense of community [they’re] trying to build…there is something really special about being able to celebrate your own identity while also learning about other people’s backgrounds and experiences.”
Their socials are always “open for everyone.” It is a safe space for “like-minded individuals” to come together and form friendships.
Their president was inspired to found the Society based on her personal experience during first year. She found a lack of diversity and belonging at university which was “isolating.” She wanted to fill this gap by creating welcoming opportunities for women of colour to connect with one another. She wants women of colour to feel celebrated, seen and valued.
Their favourite social so far was the “girls night in.” They loved seeing friendships form between individuals who may not have otherwise met!
The Society is planning a cultural ball and cultural catwalk or fashion show for the future.
