The Varsity Planning Group (VPG) have confirmed Varsity 2021 will not be happening under any circumstances, due to uncertainty about coronavirus restrictions.

Some sports clubs at both the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University will have the opportunity to compete in fixtures this year, but these will be organised by the clubs themselves and not by the VPG.

Greg Unwin, Club Sport Manager at the University of Sheffield, said: “Over the next several weeks we will be concentrating on engaging with our sports clubs to ensure a safe return to sport in line with the Government & National Governing Body guidelines.”

On top of this, Mr Unwin confirmed free memberships will be available to all sports clubs at the university to assist with re-engaging students and getting them back into sports.

Ryan Amos, Sport Development Manager at Sheffield Hallam, said: “It has been a challenging year for all involved in an ever-changing environment. Clubs have done a great job in keeping members engaged and with new committees ready to start in May, the future is looking very positive.”

The VPG has now turned it’s focus to Varsity 2022.
