The sinkhole has not been attended to, meaning that Sheffield’s popular running and dog-walking location now has only one pathway accessible.
The Chairman of Rivelin Valley Conservative Group said: “The dam is leaking because the clay surrounding it is 400 years old, but the maintenance is very expensive for the council.”
The repairs are to be substantial for a permanent fix, he added, as the water is now “leaking under the footpath.”
He also added: “If you fill the hole with cement, the water will flow around it and make a hole elsewhere.”
Many feel that this temporary solution is not efficient enough to feel safe along the pathway.
This nature trail, although scenic from the outside, has severe repairs needed and has left regular walkers “throwing the fences into the river”.
The council have requested that people use alternative pathways to avoid any danger, however residents in the surrounding area are displeased with this temporary solution.
According to a passerby, the hole isn’t causing the biggest safety hazard, the fencing surrounding it is.
The hole has been there for 6 months now and is drawing public attention for those who rely on the walkway to get places and exercise in a well admired park.
