SU ELECTIONS: Wellbeing and Sports Officer announced

Iwan James has been elected as the Students’ Union new Wellbeing and Sports Officer for the 2022/23 academic year.

James, who was previously a member of Sports committee and has held the role of Head of Sport for ForgeTV for two years running, will now take over from current officer, Charlotte McGinley.

On stage this evening, James said: “It’s great to see all the different candidates who’ve won and the incredible campaigning they’ve done through the week. I’m glad to see that RON did not succeed.

“I would’ve liked someone to campaign against but at the same time if RON did get voted in, I would’ve probably been backstage crying but we’re all good.”

Among his other policies, James plans to create a five-year plan with the University and Sport Sheffield that centres student interests. His manifesto also focuses on working with the University to improve mental health accessibility.

James has three years of competing in university sport as well as experience on Hornets Baseball Club committee and will use his experience in the club to boost inclusivity within the “Black and Gold Community”.

James was the sole candidate for the position but totalled 1,452, the most for any individual candidate this year.
