SUPAS reveals Made in Dagenham Cast

The cast for the Sheffield University Performing Arts Society (SUPAS) musical Made in Dagenham was announced earlier today. Their third production in the 2023/24 academic year, the show is set to be the final act in this year’s trilogy, following last semester’s Songs for a New World in week 8 and The Addams Family in week 11.

Directed by Eve Catanach and choreographed by Nancy Rutter and Alice Copestick, this production includes talent from the society’s previous shows this year, including Zara Walton, seen most recently playing Morticia Addams in The Addams Family as Barbara Castle, and Katie Weller as Sandra Beaumont, who played various roles as Woman 2 in Songs for a New World. Starring alongside them, the cast includes Isabel Butterworth as Rita O’Grady, Ben Jowett as Eddie O’Grady and Evan Donninger as both Prime Minister Harold Wilson and Chubby.

As well as casting, the production has also announced their technical team for the show, with Chris Peston as Sound Engineer, Dylan Phelps on Lighting Design, Set Design by Niamh Davies and Maddy Allan as Costume Designer. The company for SUPAS’ Made in Dagenham is made up of a colossal 60 people, all tasked with bringing this show to life both on stage, and in the technical departments.

SUPAS’ adaptation of Made in Dagenham is the latest incarnation of this iconic story. Based on true events, the musical tells the story of the Ford Sewing Machinists Strike of 1968 in Dagenham, surrounding a dispute regarding equal pay at the factory, which led to the passing of Equal Pay Act of 1970 in the House of Commons. It was originally staged at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End in 2014. Last month, to commemorate the show’s tenth anniversary, a concert production was staged at The London Palladium, starring Pixie Lott, Bonnie Langford and Trevor Dion Nicholas.

With show week approaching for the final SUPAS venture of the year, this casting news will further build up the anticipation for the latest production from one of the university’s most well-known performance societies. With the large company pulling together this show for our viewing pleasure, we can only wait for the curtain to be drawn to see SUPAS’ latest production.
